North Bay FC Adds Exciting New Faces For 2012
Press Release - May 22, 2012
NCAA Champion Stanford and Runner-up Duke, Plus North Carolina, Cal and Many More Are Represented
North Bay FC Wave kicks off its third Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) season with a number
of exciting new college stars joining returners who have led the Wave to the Pacific Conference
semifinals in each of its first two years in the league. The team will draw from some of the top
NCAA programs in the nation, including four from NCAA Division 1 champion Stanford, as well as
players from NCAA finalist Duke, perennial champion North Carolina, NCAA tournament qualifier
California, and many more.
In addition, the Wave will once again have dual goals of not only winning on the pitch, but
also winning in the community—raising funds for a number of worthy, local, nonprofit organizations through its
game-day receipts. Among the groups that will be supported are: Homeward Bound of Marin, which provides shelter
and residential services for homeless families and individuals; Ross Valley Breakers FC youth soccer organization;
Novato Youth Soccer Association; Mill Valley Soccer Club; and more.
"We have again assembled a group of outstanding women who are both amazing athletes and accomplished
young people," said Wave Head Coach Luis Quezada. "These players serve as exceptional role models, and
they bring a dynamic, possession-oriented style of soccer to the pitch every game they play. Another key
factor in our success is that the players we bring together have great chemistry with one another.
They really have fun playing soccer—and it shows!"
Among the new players joining the Wave this season are: Kate Bettinger (Marin FC/Stanford—Incoming Fall
2012), Kim Bettinger (Columbia), Taylor Comeau (Cal), Audrey Gibson (Duke), Murilla King (Novato United/Principia
College), Darcy McFarlane (Marin FC/North Carolina—Entering Fall 2013), Emily Mosbacher
(Bay Area Breeze/Harvard—Incoming Fall 2012), Kathy Orellana (UNLV), Haley Washburn (Harvard—Fall 2012),
and Mireya Wathen-Mayorga (San Jose State—Incoming Fall 2012).
Top returners for the Wave in 2012 include WPSL Pacific Conference first-team selection,
Jordan Carlberg (Sacramento State) and second-team selection Jocelyn Leche (USC—2005).
Other returning players include: Hayley Abbott (Southeast Missouri State), Lauren Battung
(Cal), Lindsay Dickerson (Stanford), Jessica Ingram (San Jose State—2012), Katie Knopp
(San Jose State—2011), Emi Lawson (Cal), Noelle Leprevotte (Portland—Incoming 2012),
Mandy Martin (San Jose State—2012), Kelly McFarlane (North Carolina), Katelyn Rowland
(UCLA), Andrea Salvador (Fresno State—2008; asst. coach Solano College women's soccer),
Elizabeth Snearly (Charlotte Lady Eagles, W-League), Maddie Thompson (Stanford), Nina Watkins
(Stanford) and Macy Jo Harrison (UNLV).
North Bay Wave players have experience representing the U.S. on women’s national teams at
various age levels, and have also garnered awards from their various college conferences.
"With the Womens' Professional Soccer league in the U.S. sadly folding once again, the WPSL
truly represents the highest level of womens' soccer in the country," Quezada commented. "Over
the course of the season, we'll face off against teams with players with professional and full
national team experience for the U.S. and other countries, Hermann Trophy winners such as
Stanford's Teresa Noyola, and legendary stars such as Sissi and Brandi Chastain who have literally
helped build the women’s game to what it is today. Fans will enjoy highly competitive soccer in
a family-friendly environment at a very good value—with proceeds going to great causes."
Assisting Quezada in coaching the Wave this season are GK coach Kelli Robinson, Katie Burton,
and Clyde Brett. Key sponsors are All Season Soccer, Brandon Tire, Blake’s Auto Body, Cork Pops,
Live Water Surf Shop, Marin Auto Glass, Morton & Bassett, and Wells Fargo Bank.
